Blind Lucky Charms

2019

A public art initiative providing an experiential encounter, during which we distributed 400 enamel pins.

  • Blind Lucky Charms was conceptualised and coordinated by Angela Budden, and developed in collaboration with designer, Laura Lazaletta, and writer, Joe Frost.

  • Blind Lucky Charms was funded by and developed for Create 2308, a creative festival held at the University of Newcastle, Australia. We delivered the project over five days across Callaghan and Ourimbah campuses.

About the project

Blind Lucky Charms was an interactive art drop during the Create 2308 Festival at the University of Newcastle, where we gave away 400 enamel pins to the university community.

Inspired by the thrill of blind box packaging, the project explored the excitement of chance and discovery. Each pin featured one of eight whimsical "lucky" phrases, with 50 pins per design, all sealed in mystery packaging.

To claim a lucky charm, participants had to embrace spontaneity—the pins were hidden in pot-of-gold displays, placed in new campus locations daily. With no clues given, students had to actively seek them out or stumble upon them by luck. By the end of each day, the pots were empty, and by the project's conclusion, all 400 pins had found new collectors.
