About the project
The creation and presentation of the Giant Whoopee Cushion took place at the Create 2308 festival at the University of Newcastle. Crafted with the sole intention of adding a touch of joy to people's lives, this oversized novelty measured 1.8 meters in diameter. Constructed from upholstery fabric and cushioning, it featured six touch-points that triggered one of six distinct fart sounds from an electronic fart toy. The toy was connected to an amp speaker, ensuring that the comical sound effects resonated loudly in the public space. The Giant Whoopee Cushion was showcased at both the Callaghan and Ourimbah campuses throughout the two-week festival.
Observing the audience's interaction with the installation, it was apparent that they found it enjoyable. However, despite the amusement, many individuals pressing the whoopee cushion still seemed a bit embarrassed when the humorous fart sounds resonated.
